Day Camp Leader (Director -In-Training)
Description
The Ontario Learning Development Foundation (OLDF) is seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and emerging youth leader to join our 2026 Achievers Summer Learning Camp team as a Day Camp Leader (Director-in-Training).
OLDF is a registered Canadian charity committed to transforming communities through integrated educational and community-response empowerment initiatives for children, youth, newcomers, seniors, and families. Our programs promote academic enrichment, leadership, inclusion, healthy child development, and positive community engagement.
The Achievers Learning Camp provides children with a safe, inclusive, engaging, and developmentally supportive environment where they can learn, build friendships, develop confidence, and have fun throughout the summer.
This leadership development position is designed for an individual interested in gaining hands-on experience in camp leadership, supervision, program quality, and youth development. The successful candidate will work closely with the current Camp Director throughout the summer to support operations and prepare for future leadership opportunities within OLDF programming.
Role Summary
The Day Camp Leader (Director-in-Training) supports the Camp Director in overseeing daily camp operations, supervising staff, and ensuring the consistent delivery of safe, inclusive, and engaging programming aligned with the HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development.
This role is intended to provide mentorship, leadership development, and practical experience in camp management and program coordination.
Core Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Camp Director to support overall camp operations and leadership responsibilities
- Assist with staff supervision, mentorship, scheduling, and daily coordination
- Support the planning and implementation of educational, recreational, and team-building activities
- Help ensure all camp programming aligns with the HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development, including:
- Participation
- Play
- Mastery
- Friends
- A Caring Adult
- Provide leadership and guidance to counsellors, volunteers, and campers
- Support positive behaviour management using respectful and developmentally appropriate approaches
- Monitor camper safety, supervision, attendance, and daily routines
- Assist with:
- Staff coaching and support
- Parent/guardian communication
- Incident documentation and reporting
- Daily program oversight and quality checks
- Participate in staff hiring, onboarding, orientation, and training processes
- Assist with special events, theme days, and camp-wide initiatives
- Follow and help enforce all OLDF policies, procedures, supervision standards, and safety expectations outlined in the Staff Manual
- Model professionalism, leadership, teamwork, maturity, and positive conduct at all times
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a post-secondary program in:
- Education
- Child & Youth Care
- Early Childhood Education (ECE)
- Recreation
- Psychology
- Social Work
- Or a related field
- Previous experience working in camps, schools, tutoring programs, or youth-focused community settings
- Previous leadership experience with children or youth is considered an asset
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to mentor and support younger staff and volunteers
- Positive attitude, professionalism, maturity, and high energy level
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment
- Ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital communication tools
Required Certifications & Screening
Applicants must:
- Hold a valid Emergency First Aid & CPR-C certification (or higher)
- Hold HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) Certification or be willing to obtain certification prior to camp
- Hold HIGH FIVE® Quest 2 Certification or be willing to obtain certification prior to camp
- Participate in mandatory pre-camp training sessions
- Applicants who are 18 years of age or older must provide a Police Vulnerable Sector Check prior to employment
Employment Details
- Number of Positions: 1
- Rate of Pay: $17.90/hour
- Hours: 30–35 hours per week
- Employment Start Date: June 15, 2026
- Camp Dates: June 29 – August 14, 2026
- Schedule: Monday to Friday | 8:45 AM – 3:30 PM
- Mandatory training and pre-camp planning will take place prior to the start of camp

Eligibility Requirements
This position is funded through the Government of Canada’s Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person granted refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
