Description

The Ontario Learning Development Foundation (OLDF) is seeking enthusiastic, responsible, and caring Summer Camp Counsellors to join our 2026 Achievers Learning Camp team in Brampton.

OLDF is a registered Canadian charity committed to transforming communities through integrated educational and community-response empowerment initiatives for children, youth, newcomers, seniors, and families. Our programs promote academic enrichment, leadership, inclusion, healthy child development, and positive community engagement.

The Achievers Learning Camp provides children with a safe, inclusive, engaging, and supportive environment where they can learn, build friendships, develop confidence, and have fun throughout the summer.

Camp Counsellors play an important role in creating positive experiences for campers while serving as mentors, leaders, and role models.

Role Summary


Camp Counsellors provide direct supervision, mentorship, and engagement for campers while creating a safe, welcoming, and developmentally appropriate environment that supports healthy child development.

Counsellors are the primary “Caring Adult” within the program and help foster participation, friendship, confidence, and skill development for every child.

Core Responsibilities

  • Supervise a group of approximately 10–15 campers daily
  • Ensure the constant safety, supervision, and well-being of campers
  • Lead and participate in:
  • Educational activities
  • Recreational programming
  • Team-building and social activities
  • Foster positive relationships with campers through mentorship, encouragement, and active engagement
  • Encourage:
  • Participation
  • Social interaction and friendships
  • Confidence and skill development
  • Support positive behaviour management using respectful and constructive approaches
  • Provide regular communication and feedback to parents/guardians
  • Complete:
  • Attendance tracking
  • Weekly camper reports
  • Communication and activity documentation
  • Assist supervisors and coordinators with camp activities, special events, and theme days
  • Model professionalism, teamwork, enthusiasm, leadership, and positive conduct
  • Follow all OLDF policies, procedures, supervision standards, and safety expectations outlined in the Staff Manual
  • Implement and promote the HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development in all programming and interactions

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from high school, college, or university
  • Preference will be given to applicants studying:
  • Education
  • Early Childhood Education (ECE)
  • Child & Youth Care
  • Recreation
  • Psychology
  • Social Services
  • Teaching
  • Or related fields
  • Experience working with children or youth in camps, tutoring, schools, or community programs is considered an asset
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Positive attitude, professionalism, maturity, and high energy level
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment
  • Ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital communication tools


Required Certifications & Screening

Applicants must:
  • Hold a valid Emergency First Aid & CPR-C certification (or higher)
  • Hold a HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development Certification or be willing to obtain certification prior to camp
  • Participate in mandatory pre-camp training sessions
  • Applicants who are 18 years of age or older must provide a Police Vulnerable Sector Check prior to employment


Employment Details

  • Number of Positions: 16
  • Rate of Pay: $17.60/hour
  • Hours: 30–35 hours per week
  • Camp Dates: June 29 – August 14, 2026
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday | 8:45 AM – 3:30 PM
  • Mandatory training will take place prior to the start of camp

Eligibility Requirements

This position is funded through the Government of Canada’s Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person granted refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
