Description

The Ontario Learning Development Foundation (OLDF) is seeking organized, creative, and highly motivated Managing Editors to lead and coordinate our summer editorial and digital publications team.

OLDF is a registered Canadian charity committed to transforming communities through integrated educational and community-response empowerment initiatives for children, youth, newcomers, seniors, and families. Our programs promote education, leadership, youth empowerment, community engagement, and digital storytelling.

This position is ideal for individuals with strong editorial leadership, publication management, and digital media experience who are capable of overseeing multiple publications, coordinating editorial teams, and ensuring projects are completed from concept to final publication.

Successful candidates must be able to manage workflow effectively, follow up consistently with contributors and team members, and ensure assigned magazine editions and publication projects are completed on schedule.

Role Summary

The Managing Editor provides leadership and oversight for OLDF’s online magazines, digital publications, and editorial projects.

This role is responsible for managing publication workflow, coordinating editorial teams, overseeing multiple publication timelines simultaneously, and ensuring assigned editions move successfully from planning to final publication.

The successful candidate must understand the end-to-end editorial and digital publishing process, including planning, writing, editing, layout coordination, production, scheduling, and online publication.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of assigned publication projects and editorial teams
  • Manage multiple magazine editions and digital publications simultaneously
  • Plan, assign, coordinate, edit, and oversee publication content from concept to final release
  • Ensure assigned editions and publication projects are completed on schedule and meet production deadlines
  • Monitor workflow and follow up regularly with writers, editors, designers, photographers, and contributors
  • Coordinate editorial calendars, production schedules, and publication timelines
  • Review and edit content to ensure quality, accuracy, grammar, consistency, and publication standards
  • Oversee layout, visual presentation, branding consistency, and publication organization
  • Support the publication and scheduling of online magazine editions and digital content
  • Assist in recruiting, onboarding, mentoring, and supporting editorial team members
  • Participate in team meetings, editorial planning sessions, and project check-ins
  • Collaborate with graphic designers, web coordinators, social media teams, and contributors
  • Maintain organized files, project trackers, archives, and publication records
  • Support outreach, partnerships, sponsorship, and advertising initiatives where required
  • Contribute creative ideas while ensuring projects remain organized, responsive, and deadline-driven


Qualifications

The successful candidate will bring the following skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing creative or editorial teams
  • Strong understanding of the full editorial and digital publishing process from planning to publication
  • Experience managing multiple projects, deadlines, contributors, and publication schedules simultaneously
  • Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and follow-up skills
  • Ability to work independently while remaining highly responsive and accountable within a collaborative team environment
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong editing, proofreading, and content management abilities
  • Experience with:
  • Magazine editing and production
  • Digital publications
  • Editorial workflow management
  • Online publishing platforms
  • Proficiency in:
  • Adobe InDesign
  • Adobe InCopy
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Adobe Acrobat
  • Canva or similar design tools
  • Experience using WordPress or digital publishing systems is considered an asset
  • Degree or diploma in:
  • Journalism
  • Creative Writing
  • English

  • Arts
  • Or related fields
  • Passion for youth empowerment, storytelling, community engagement, and creative leadership


Employment Details

  • Number of Positions: 3
  • Rate of Pay: $17.85/hour
  • Hours: Approximately 30 hours per week
  • Contract Length: 9 weeks
  • Employment Start Date: May 25, 2026
  • Work Arrangement: Hybrid / Remote
  • Participation in scheduled team meetings and editorial planning sessions is required


Eligibility Requirements

This position is funded through the Government of Canada’s Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person granted refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
